Marlboro.edu Email & Google Drive Accounts

A summary of important information regarding what’s going to happen with Marlboro College email and Google accounts after the merger with Emerson College.

We very much appreciate everyone’s patience as we have carefully considered the effects of the agreement with Emerson on Marlboro’s email accounts and Google Drive folders. We recognize that for some members of our community, their only email address is through Marlboro and that for others they will continue to work with our students as they transition to the Marlboro Institute at Emerson.

We have outlined below the particular effects Marlboro’s agreement with Emerson will have on faculty, staff, students, and alumni’s continued access to their Marlboro.edu accounts. It’s important for everyone to understand that at this time Emerson has agreed to maintain Marlboro’s accounts for two years only. Regardless of category we strongly recommend that everyone using Marlboro accounts back-up their personal files and folders before June 30th.

Faculty

  • Email accounts for Marlboro faculty transitioning to Emerson will remain active throughout the summer and for two additional years through our agreement with Emerson. As part of this arrangement, these faculty will retain access to their materials stored in Marlboro’s Google Drive. However, they will need to transition to an Emerson address for their work at the Marlboro Institute. In retaining their Marlboro accounts, faculty are personally responsible for following all federal requirements related to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).

  • Email accounts for current Marlboro faculty who will not be going to Emerson – and who will not have emeriti/ae status – will be deleted on June 30th. In addition to losing all email, these faculty will also lose access to all material in Marlboro’s Google Drive. Faculty can submit a request to techsupport@marlboro.edu to retain their Marlboro email address for the two years that Emerson will maintain Marlboro’s domain. However, all contents of these faculty email and drive accounts will be deleted in compliance with federal regulations.

  • Email accounts for Graduate and Professional Studies faculty will be deleted on August 30th. In addition to losing all email, these faculty will also lose access to all material in Marlboro’s Google Drive. Graduate faculty can submit a request to techsupport@marlboro.edu to retain their Marlboro email address for the two years that Emerson will maintain Marlboro’s domain. However, all contents of these faculty email and drive accounts will be deleted in compliance with federal regulations.

  • Email accounts for all emeriti/ae faculty will remain active for the next two years as part of Marlboro’s agreement with Emerson. As part of this arrangement, faculty will also retain access to materials stored in Marlboro’s Google Drive. In retaining these accounts, emeriti/ae faculty are personally responsible for following all federal requirements related to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).

Graduate and Undergraduate Students

  • Under our agreement with Emerson email accounts for current Marlboro students will remain active for two years. As part of this arrangement, students will retain access to materials stored in Marlboro’s Google Drive for the two year period.

Staff

  • Email accounts for current Marlboro staff will be deleted on June 30th. In addition to losing access to their email, staff will also lose access to all material in Marlboro’s Google Drive. Staff can petition techsupport@marlboro.edu to retain their Marlboro email address for the two years that Emerson will maintain Marlboro’s domain. However, the content of staff email accounts will be deleted in compliance with federal regulations. Proprietary information or email and documents containing student information cannot be backed up or moved to another server.

Alumni

  • Email accounts for current Marlboro alumni will remain active for two years through our agreement with Emerson. As part of this arrangement, alumni will retain access to materials stored in Marlboro’s Google Drive for the two year window.

If you do not have access to your account or if you’re having issues logging in please contact techsupport@marlboro.edu for assistance.

Regardless of your status, everyone is strongly advised to back-up email and Google Drive contents before June 30th. These are complex systems and there are many things that can go wrong. For that reason we strongly recommend that all users review these instructions and make a backup of the data that is important to them. Per FERPA no documents or emails containing student information should be backed up to a non Marlboro account.

Because the Graduate and Professional Studies spring semester goes through August 15th, all graduate accounts will not migrate to Emerson until the end of August.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to techsupport@marlboro.edu and we’ll respond as soon as we can.
